gAALaxy

The project aims to merge stand-alone solutions that support older adults in their core areas of life. The holistic approach combines home automation systems with AAL products on a gAALaxy middleware.

gAALaxy was an international research and development project in the field of Active & Assisted Living (AAL). The aim of the project was to connect existing home automation systems and innovative AAL technologies via a common middleware, thereby creating an integrated user experience for older people.
The focus was on developing a so-called residential gateway, which acts as an interface between the home environment and external services. By combining smart home technologies, assistance systems, and telecare and social services, the aim was to enable older people to live independently and safely in their familiar surroundings for longer.

Impact in practice

gAALaxy demonstrated how different technologies and services can be brought together on a single platform. By linking home automation systems, assistive solutions and external services, a holistic approach was developed to support older people in their everyday lives.

The project made a significant contribution to improving interoperability between different systems and laid the foundations for user-friendly and integrated AAL solutions. At the same time, it highlighted new ways in which digital technologies can promote safety, comfort, social participation and independence in old age.
